When Larry Cohen, a recently graduated master’s of architecture approached vbA to provide the construction drawings for a weekend “cabin” in the woods, he and principal Hector Muñoz-Baras had many things in common. Not only were they both
U-Penn Alumni, but Larry’s interest in “Green” and “Solar” design was their true common ground and their passion.
Larry’s design was pretty well in place, but once integrated with the technologies for construction, particularly the introduction of SIP’s (structural insulated panels) and ICF’s (insulated concrete forms), it was transformed into a true energy miser of a project.
Larry’s minimalist modern design is a “how to” on designing a “Passive Solar House” and has received a LEED Silver Certification.
