Founding Principal Hector Muñoz-Baras, AIA, NCARB, LEEDap, is committed to the idea that experience, knowledge and expertise is to be placed at the client’s disposal. With nearly 30 years of design and construction expertise, v.baras ARCHITECTS provides that rare combination of creativity and a thorough understanding of how to build. Towards this end the firm is emphasizing the architectural design / build process as the primary method of “project delivery”. This is a team driven system, as owner, architect and builder, work in tandem to provide an integrated and cost effective project for the client.

v. baras ARCHITECTS has assembled a team of professionals with diverse, yet complimentary backgrounds in order to provide our clients with the very best in design, contract documents, project management and client service. Our greatest strength is to creatively articulate the aesthetic vision while ensuring the practical success of our client’s valuable asset from start to finish.

Hector Muñoz-Baras, has a B.FA degree in Interior Design from New York Institute of Technology and a M. Arch from the University of Pennsylvania. In addition to his educational background, he has over two decades of residential and commercial design experience. Hector’s larger work includes boutique hotels, dormitories, condominium/apartment buildings, restaurants, offices, warehouses and environmental projects. He is recognized by the modular building community as a design expert in the commercial and high-end residential markets.

vbA has become the region’s solar green, energy efficient, leaders, with the design of a home which is completely “off the grid”. The home includes photo-voltaic arrays for electrical production and a solar hot water array linked into a massive thermal heat sink below the house slab.

Another home has recently received a LEED silver certification and several more have received Energy Star Gold and Silver certifications, reaching energy efficiency levels of 45% better than code.

Several of these projects have been architectural design / build projects with builder associate Ed Nikles Custom Builder of Milford, PA.

Hector has travelled extensively in Finland and is an expert in that countries’ greatest architect, Alvar Aalto. As an adherent to the “other tradition” of architectural Modernism, Hector’s other architectural influences include Reima Pietila,(also from Finland), the German Hans Scharoun and the theoretical work of Hugo Haring.

Hector’s true architectural vision is best exemplified by the “figurative modern” designs of projects such as the Neversink Valley Museum, the Milford Library, and the private residences – “Oaknell”, “The Cube House” and “Jarobs’ Crossing” among others.
